what to pack when traveling to italy in the summer

what to pack when traveling to italy in the summer

You’ve done it! You’ve booked your trip, now, for the packing… figuring out what to pack when traveling to Italy in the Summer can be so much fun! Think… romantic silhouettes, a mix of neutrals and bright pops of color, with chic and playful outfits.

Spending time in Italy during the summer has been one of my favorite travel experiences. I’ve put together a list of items from Amazon that will take your Italian Summer to the next level. I’ve also added a few brand recommendations if you’re looking for more options.

Tops

Pack lightweight pieces that are easy to layer if needed. Be comfortable is the most important, so make sure the pieces you choose, you’ll feel comfy and confident in all day.

Tube Top – A go to for any vacation. It’s easy to throw on with anything and looks chic and put together for any situation. Other options: Aritzia, Tilly’s or Old Navy.

Tank Top – Fitted rib tanks are great for layering and a minimal vibe but packing a cute statement tank is great too. Abercrombie, Old Navy, or H&M.

Oversized Button Down – This is perfect for a cover-up, dressed up top, or an additional layer if needed. Other options: Old Navy/Gap, ASOS, and Aerie.

Cropped Sweater – Needed for chilly nights, breezy days or air conditioned buildings. As a chronically cold girl, a sweater or sweatshirt is always needed. Pick which ever you feel like suits your style best. Both look chic and being warm is the most important thing to me when traveling. Other Options: Quince, Abercrombie or Pacsun.

Bottoms

Bring versatile options that are easy to mix and match with your tops.

White Denim Shorts – Classic, comfortable, chic and versatile. You can dress them up or down and wear them day to night. A perfect statement piece for Italy. Other options: Zara, Target or Revolve.

Boxer Shorts – Italy in the summer calls for cute, little, patterned shorts. I love these little boxer shorts but I encourage any and all shorts that speak to you. Other options: Free People, Revolve, or ASOS.

Stripe Shorts – These shorts 😍 these could be worn all over Italy. But imagine them on the Amalfi Coast..? I mean. They’re perfect. Other options: Bohme, Revolve or Zara.

Mini Skirt – This skirt is so fun! It can be worn casually during the day or dressed up at night. Other options:

Midi Skirt – Perfect for dinner, a night time walk, or a day at the museum. If this is too dressy for your vibe, opt for a more casual option like a tiered flowy skirt. Other options: Petal & Pup, Reformation, or Free People.

Denim Jeans – Denim jeans are so chic and can be wore in basically every situation. Pairing jeans with sandals and a cute tank or tube top can look so put together and is great for wandering around the streets in Italy, especially with cooler weather or at night. Other options: Madewell, Hollister or Zara.

Long Dress – Imagine this – you spent the whole day at the beach on the Amalfi Coast, you just showered and are getting ready for dinner, doesn’t this feel like the perfect dress for that? Other options: Reformation, Revolve or ASOS.

Shoes

Black Flip Flops – Perfect for beach days or nights out. These Reef sandals from Amazon are my favorite and so comfy! Other options: Havaianas, Free People, or TKEEs.

Tan Sandals – This style of sandal is so cute and so practical for long days of walking. I wore similar ones from Target on my last trip and they were everything. I switched between those and sneakers and it was all I needed. Other options: Steve Madden, ASOS, or DSW.

Sneakers – A classic pair of sneakers is a must have when traveling in Europe. For Italy specifically, you can play with bold colors, like this blue pair of adidas. However, a white or neutral sneaker is always chic and can really be paired with anything, I would choose something like this if you prefer that option. Other options: Coolway, adidas, or Revolve.

Ciao!

Packing for Italy in the summer doesn’t have to mean buying a whole new wardrobe. But I hope this gave you some outfit inspo for your next trip!

One of my biggest tips? Thrift when you can! Not only is it more sustainable, but you can also find unique, high-quality pieces that give off that effortless Italian vibe without the high price tag.

If you’re shopping online, I highly recommend checking out ThredUp. It’s one of my go-to places for finding gently used (and sometimes brand-new) items from brands that I mentioned like Reformation, Free People, and Zara. It’s a budget-friendly and eco-conscious way to prep for your trip!

Whether you’re shopping your own closet, thrifting locally, or browsing online, packing for Italy can be fun and affordable!
