Planning a trip to the Amalfi Coast? Sorrento is the perfect base to soak it all in. Here are the best things to do in Sorrento, Italy—from secret swimming spots and local limoncello to dreamy day trips and delicious food experiences.
1. Fuoro Caffe (Antica Gelateria Sorrentina 1890)
The cutest family run gelateteria and cafe in the charming alleyways of Sorrento. I believe they source all their flavors from around italy so it’s a great way to taste the local flavors. Stumbling upon this place was a highlight of my time here and definitely one of the best things to do in Sorrento.
2. Capo di Sorrento – Bagni Regina Giovanna – St. Salazar Cove
I’ve lumped these all together because they are so close and I feel like if you wanted, you could explore all of them in the same day. Capo di Sorrento has ancient Roman ruins to explore with some places to lay out for sunbathing. After spending some time there I would take a dip at Bagni Regina Giovanna, a swimming hole in Capo di Sorrento. You can also head to St. Salazar Cove for more swimming and exploring. People do sunbath here but it’s very rocky.

3. Pignatella Beach
Just past Capo di Sorrento is Pignatella Beach (Spiaggia della Pignatella), a beautiful rocky beach that is quieter and more secluded than the ones in town. A great spot for sunbathing or watching the sunset. It’s a must see when you visit Sorrento. You can take the city bus, drive, or walk to get there, depending on where you are staying.
4. Try Limoncello

The lemons in this part of Italy are incredible. And Limoncello is a speciality here. I would recommend trying anything lemon flavored – chocolate, gelato, drinks, everything. It’s a must!
5. Take a cooking class
Food is such a big motivator for visiting Italy, so why not experience it to the fullest? There are so many amazing food tours that will allow you to not only enjoy amazing food, but create even deeper memories about your time in Sorrento. You could do a day or two here to take it all that it has to offer. Again, Rome2Rio.com is amazing for figuring out and coordinating transportation options to help get there from Sorrento.

Another must see when visiting this part of Italy. These ruins were covered by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius causing them to be well-preserved and easily explorable today. Whether you’re into history or not, it’s a great stop to take during your time here.
