During my month traveling around Europe, I spent 5 days in Paris. It’s one of my favorite places I’ve been to and highly recommend visiting as a solo female traveler. It was a beautiful city, I felt safe, and loved the people I met at my hostel. I think that where you stay can play a big role in feeling safe in a city. I stayed at one hostel while I was there and loved the neighborhood it was in. Below I’ll review the one I stayed at, and list a few other options that I think are the best places to stay in Paris as a solo female traveler.
One thing that I look for in every hostel is a female dorm with an ensuite. You can definitely stay in a mixed dorm without an ensuite but for me, it was the best choice. For a first time solo female traveler I wanted to be as safe as I could and have peace of mind. If staying in a mixed dorm is comfortable for you that’s great, just make sure you read reviews from female travelers for the hostel before you go.
1. The People Paris Marais
This is my top choice and couldn’t recommend it enough. Loved the location! Le Marais is such a pretty neighborhood. It’s really walkable with lots of shopping, thrifting and food options. Plus it’s right on the Seine and a short walk to Notre Dame and the Louvre. Highly recommend wandering the streets of Le Marais.
As a solo traveler I loved that the rooms were smaller with an ensuite. I stayed in the female only 4 bed room. The beds are super private and cozy. The roommates I had were very social, respectful and nice. We had dinner together one of the nights in the hostel restaurant. The food was great and there was a live band playing, it was very lively and fun. I love eating in the hostel restaurants on days when I don’t feel like going out at night by myself.
2. Caulaincourt Montmartre by Hiphophostels
I’m here for the aesthetics and this hostel doesn’t disappoint. The vibes seem really nice. Plus it’s in the gorgeous neighborhood of Montmartre. It’s within walking distance of Sacre Coeur and one of the best views of Paris. And has really good reviews on Hostel World.
Montmartre is a great neighborhood to explore, some places that are really close to Sacre Coeur get really touristy so I like that this hostel is a little farther away but still close enough to walk to.
3. The People – Paris Bercy
This hostel is in the 12th arrondissement which is know to be less touristy. It’s further away from the bigger tourist attractions like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, or Sacre Coeur. However, it’s close to the metro and just a 3o minute ride to those attractions.
If you’re wanting to explore something closer to the hostel, I recommend the Bois de Vincennes, a beautiful park in the 12th arrondissement. This is a newer hostel and one of the things I like most is that it has rooftop with unique views of Paris. Plus every room has an ensuite which I love.
4. Le Regent Montmartre by Hiphophostels
This is another great option for a place to stay as a solo female traveler in Paris. It’s in the neighborhood of Montmartre which I’ve mentioned is a great neighborhood to wander around in. It’s close to Sacre Coeur, Moulin Rouge, and Pigalle.
The beds arent as private as some of the other hostels but the rooms are charming with the option to have a female dorm with an ensuite. And possibly a view of Sacre Coeur out your window.
5. Hotel Madrigal
So cute! Love the privacy of the beds with an ensuite in the room. So nice and would make me feel so safe. Seriously, I will pay a little extra for more security and a private bathroom. The vibes and atmosphere of this hostel is amazing. PLUS! The price is great for Paris. One of the cheapest I’ve seen with an ensuite. And has amazing reviews on Hostel World.
It’s in a residential and family area so quiet and safe. But with lots of shopping, great restaurants and yummy patisseries. If I were heading to Paris as a solo female traveler this would be high on my list of places to stay.
Pro Tip: If you’re booking through Hostel World, download the app. You can join group chats with travelers that will be there at the same time as you to connect and make plans if you’re interested.
Overall, there are quite a few places to stay in Paris that are safe for females traveling solo. If you are wanting to book a female only dorm with an ensuite it’s better to book farther in advance. Those rooms sell out quicker so you’ll need to plan a little bit ahead.
I loved my time in hostels and recommend them to anyone traveling. The people I’ve met were friendly and usually traveling solo as well. It felt safe and the hostel staff were always super helpful and kind. Some hostels event have their own events like walking tours and pub crawls that are great to join in on.
Hopefully this helps with choosing where to stay on your next trip to Paris. If you’re looking for what you need to pack on your carryon/personal item for your trip, check out my post about travel essentials on long flights.
